Barcelona reportedly trigger an extension in Riqui Puig's contract, with the out-of-favour midfielder now tied down to the Blaugrana until 2023.

Barcelona are understood to have triggered a two-year extension in Riqui Puig's contract amid talk of the youngster leaving Camp Nou.

The midfielder seemed destined to head for the exit door in Catalonia after he was allegedly branded a "leak" by Ronald Koeman when information relating to a possible summer transfer was made public.

Arsenal have since been heavily linked with a swoop for Puig, who has only appeared five times in all competitions and is yet to start a game for Barca this season.

However, Mundo Deportivo reports that La Blaugrana have activated a clause in the 21-year-old's contract which will see him remain at Camp Nou until the summer of 2023.

Puig's contract was originally set to expire in six months' time - meaning that he could have entered talks with other clubs this month - and his new deal reportedly includes a release clause of €100m (£90.4m).

The Spain Under-21s international has only played four minutes of La Liga football this term, as well as making three substitute outings in the Champions League.
