Marcus Rashford denies a claim that he wants in excess of £500,000 a week in order to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford has taken to social media to deny a claim that he wants in excess of £500,000 a week in order to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has been in strong form for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 27 goals and registering nine assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford is only contracted to the 20-time English champions until next summer, though, and there has not yet been an announcement over a new deal at the club.

According to the Daily Star, the England international is looking for a salary in excess of £500,000 a week, which would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

The report claims that talks over a new deal have stalled due to the ownership situation at Old Trafford, with the Glazers currently in discussions over a sale.

However, Rashford was quick to address the speculation on Wednesday, calling it "complete nonsense", insisting that he is only focusing on helping Man United enjoy a strong end to the campaign.

"Just before this one starts to do the rounds! It's complete nonsense," Rashford wrote on Twitter.

"The club and make (sic) self have been respectful to one another, and that's how it will remain. My focus is purely on finishing as well as possible in the league and winning trophies."

Rashford has already helped Man United claim silverware this season, with Erik ten Hag's side beating Newcastle United at the end of February to win the EFL Cup.

The Red Devils are also chasing success in the Europa League, where they are in the quarter-finals, and the FA Cup, where they have reached the semi-finals.

Man United can still mathematically win the Premier League, but the team are instead focusing on securing a top-four finish, currently sitting third in the table, three points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle ahead of Sunday's clash between the two teams at St James' Park.

Rashford was heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the latter stages of last summer's transfer window, and a recent report has claimed that he turned down a £400,000-a-week contract offer from the French giants last year.

The forward pulled out of the England squad for their Euro 2024 qualification matches against Italy and Ukraine due to a knock that he suffered in Man United's last game with Fulham in the FA Cup.

However, Rashford is expected to be fit for the trip to Newcastle this weekend, with the injury not serious.

The Man United academy product has scored 14 Premier League goals this season, placing him third on the top scorer list for this term behind Erling Braut Haaland (28), Harry Kane (21) and Ivan Toney (16).
