Professional Game Match Officials Limited have insisted that referee Mark Clattenburg "has no case to answer" after they received a complaint from Southampton regarding his conduct.
The referee was accused of making an insulting remark towards midfielder Adam Lallana during Southampton's match with Everton after turning down a penalty appeal from the 25-year-old.
It had been reported that the Premier League side had also requested that Clattenburg does not officiate in any of Southampton's fixtures until the matter had been resolved.
The governing body have responded by confirming that contact had been made by Southampton, but that the experienced official was innocent of any wrongdoing.
Southampton fell to a 2-1 defeat in the match that was played last Sunday.
