Brad Guzan: 'Luis Suarez unsure of penalty contact'

Brad Guzan says that Luis Suarez didn't know if he had been fouled when he won a penalty for Liverpool against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has claimed that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez did not know whether he had been fouled after winning a point-saving penalty at Anfield on Saturday.

Steven Gerrard converted the spot kick to earn Liverpool a 2-2 draw in the Premier League, having trailed by two goals earlier in the match.

Villa were unhappy with the penalty awarded by referee Jon Moss as they felt there was no contact between Suarez and Guzan after the American came racing off his line.

"I asked [Suarez], because I was pretty confident in myself I hadn't touched him, 'Did I touch you?' and he said 'I don't know'," Guzan told reporters. "That is the honest truth of it. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes not.

"Obviously the referee has given it but at the time I thought I pulled my hands back and I don't think I made contact with him. I don't know if the referee can see that or not as I don't know his positioning. From my point of view it is probably a soft decision.

"I think Suarez was probably a bit surprised to have it given but those are the decisions and you have to get on with it and go again."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he thought it was a clear penalty.
