Jurgen Klopp angered by festive fixture changes

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reacts angrily after discovering the rearranged fixtures for the festive period.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reacted angrily to the latest set of TV picks from Sky Sports and BT Sport.

The broadcasters' selections mean that the Reds will face two games in the space of 48 hours at the turn of the year as part of a congested Christmas schedule.

Liverpool will welcome Stoke City to Anfield on December 27 and then Manchester City on New Year's Eve in a 5.30pm kickoff. Klopp's side will then travel to the North-East to take on Sunderland for a 3pm kickoff on January 2.

"Now I have seen the fixtures and I am not too happy," the former Borussia Dortmund manager told reporters today. "We have less than 48 hours between our game against Manchester City and in Sunderland. Less than 48 hours, I cannot believe.

"I learn more and more about this league and maybe I have to ask someone if we can ask if there will be another time for us at Sunderland.

"I understand tradition - I would never say Boxing Day is not a good idea as I love it. [But] I don't know why we play Monday. Is January 2 a special day in England?"

After the first seven games of the season, Klopp's charges sit fourth in the Premier League, two points off leaders City.
