John Carver: 'I'll do things my way at Newcastle United'

Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver insists that he will be his "own man" during his time in charge of the club.

John Carver has insisted that he will do things 'his way' as he looks to put his name in the hat for the vacant managerial position at Newcastle United.

The 49-year-old has taken caretaker charge of the Magpies in recent weeks following the departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace.

Despite supporters calling for a fresh face in the dugout, with former Lyon boss Remi Garde among the favourites to take charge, Carver has declared that he will give his all to win over the respect of those in the stands.

"If that's what the fans have been saying, I can understand that because I've been working with Alan," he told reporters. "But I've set the team up slightly different on the pitch, certainly against Chelsea you saw a slightly different performance.

"I've done some things different on the team meetings, how I've worked with the players is slightly different. I am my own man. How I look at it is you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

"If I don't do it my way and I don't get the job, then I'll think 'why didn't I do it like that?'. I'm going to do it my way, and if I don't do the job then at least I know I've done it my way."

Carver will take charge of Newcastle's home match against Southampton tomorrow evening.
