Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote has insisted that he is happy to remain at the club, despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

Manchester United and Chelsea are known to be keen admirers of the 26-year-old, but Tiote says that he is focused on playing for Newcastle.

Tiote told the Northern Echo: "I'm still a Newcastle player and everyone is working towards the game on Saturday. I am looking forward to it.

"For me, I am happy if I'm playing. I'm playing here at Newcastle and I am happy to be looking forward to the new season.

"We have some good players and we want to do the same as last season, if not better. It's exciting. I am just doing my job."

Newcastle start the Premier League season with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur.
