Late Frankie Mariano try helps Castleford Tigers to victory

Frankie Mariano scores a late try as Castleford Tigers move joint top of the Super League with a narrow 18-16 win over Hull FC.

Frankie Mariano scored a 78th-minute winning try as Castleford Tigers moved joint top of the Super League with a narrow 18-16 win over Hull FC.

Both sides had six points apiece after seven minutes courtesy of converted tries from Fetuli Talanoa and Michael Shenton respectively.

Gareth Ellis touched down for the visitors on the half-hour mark to give Hull a 12-6 lead at the break, with Ben Crooks again successful with the conversion.

Marc Sneyd restored parity once again by converting his own try on 46 minutes before Liam Colbon crossed over to re-establish his team's lead.

Colbon's contribution looked to be enough to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Daryl Powell's men, only for Mariano to pounce in the closing stages to draw the Tigers level yet again.

However, Sneyd kept his cool to fire the decisive conversion before adding a one-point drop goal moments later to cap a spirited win for Powell's troops.
