Steve Bruce: 'Romelu Lukaku could hurt Chelsea's rivals'

Steve Bruce believes that Romelu Lukaku could perform this season against Chelsea's title rivals.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has admitted that it was a shrewd move by Jose Mourinho to loan striker Romelu Lukaku to Everton.

Bruce, whose side take on Everton on Saturday, said that Lukaku is the sort of player who could put a dent in Chelsea's rivals' title bids.

"He's a hell of a loan signing on deadline day, someone like Lukaku," Bruce told BBC Sport. "I saw him playing for Belgium in midweek and he's going to be one hell of a player.

"Maybe the reason why he's gone there is Jose Mourinho has thought 'maybe Everton can go and get a few points off the big boys with him in their team'. That would be pretty shrewd really and I think they can."

Bruce's Hull are currently eighth in the Premier League with 11 points.
