Roma have missed out on the chance to regain top spot in Serie A after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cagliari.

The home side started well as Gervinho nearly gave Rudi Garcia's team the lead after seven minutes when his low shot was saved.

Maicon had a chance seconds later, but his effort was fired wide with the Brazilian defender at a tight angle.

Gervinho came even closer towards the end of the half, but his header could only find the post.

Following the restart, Maicon had another attempt, before the visitors had a goal ruled out for offside.

With the game deep into injury time, Roma struck the post again when Adam Ljalic flicked a header onto the woodwork.
