Southampton's Steven Davis disappointed with display

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis admits that his side were far from their best in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at St Mary's Stadium.

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has admitted that his side didn't give the best account of themselves in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City this weekend.

The Saints succumbed to strikes from Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy as City moved above them in the table, despite playing the last 15 minutes of the game with 10 men after Eliaquim Mangala was sent off.

Davis told the club's official website: "We're disappointed with how we played ourselves. We know we are capable of playing a lot better than that.

"We were nervous to start but we felt we were building our way into it. We were looking quite good up until the goal, but it is the small details in a game that count. Toure has punished us and they made the most of the mistakes we made.

"I think the scoreline is a little bit harsh. We're frustrated and disappointed after the game but we need to bounce back on Wednesday. Whenever you face the big sides especially they are ruthless and punish you and that was the case."

Ronald Koeman's men face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their next top-flight clash on Wednesday.
