Jonas Gutierrez baffled by Alan Pardew snub

Jonas Gutierrez says that his form is not the reason why Newcastle boss Alan Pardew denied him opportunities in the first team this season.

Jonas Gutierrez does not believe that his form is the reason why he fell out of favour at Newcastle United under manager Alan Pardew this season.

The Argentine found himself on the fringes of the first team this term, making just one Premier League appearance before sealing a loan switch to Norwich City earlier this week.

The 30-year-old has is convinced that his decline with the Magpies was not a "football problem" and hinted that Pardew had ulterior motives for not selecting him.

When asked why he was denied opportunities to play his way into contention for regular game time, Gutierrez told Norwich Evening News 24: "Maybe that's a question for [Pardew]. In December he told me I wasn't going to play and I had to find a new club.

"I thought it was like not being in the starting XI - and that can happen - but then, with the FA Cup, I thought I might have a chance to be back in and I had to watch from the stands.

"After that I thought it was not a football problem. I don't know the reason but it's done. Now I'm thinking about Norwich."

Gutierrez could make his debut for the Canaries for the visit of Hull City to Carrow Road tomorrow afternoon.
