Tim Cahill's late goal gives New York Red Bulls a 1-0 win at home to Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Eastern Conference.

New York Red Bulls have extended their lead at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference with a 1-0 win at home to Los Angeles Galaxy.

The best chance that either side had of breaking the deadlock in the first half came through Robbie Keane, but the Galaxy striker's free kick was kept out by the acrobatic Luis Robles.

Both teams showed plenty of attacking intention after the break as Landon Donovan blasted his effort over from the edge of the box, before Robles was called into action again to deny Marcelo Sarvas.

New York pushed hard to snatch a winner late on and they were rewarded for their persistence in injury time when Tim Cahill headed in.
