Robert Earnshaw strike ensures anxious wait for Montreal Impact

Robert Earnshaw scores the only goal of the game as Toronto FC beat Montreal Impact 1-0 in the final match of the season at BMO Field.

Toronto FC have beaten Montreal Impact 1-0 at BMO Field, possibly denying their Canadian rivals a spot in the MLS playoffs.

Robert Earnshaw scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute, when he re-directed Bobby Convey's scuffed effort past Troy Perkins.

It was Perkins who was the far busier of the two goalkeepers, as Marco Schallibaum's men, who had won just one of their previous seven, struggled to inch themselves further clear in third.

However, they could not find a way back into the game, meaning Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution and Chicago Fire have their fate in their own hands tomorrow.
