The Football Association are reportedly close to securing West Bromwich Albion sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth.
Ashworth is believed to be the favourite to take on the new role with the English governing body following the introduction of the new training centre at St George's Park.
It is understood that an official approach for the Baggies director is likely to be made within the week, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Gareth Southgate was originally the leading contender to take the technical director position but ruled himself out of the running after stepping down from his post as head of elite development.
