Angelique Kerber sent packing from Indian Wells

Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor stuns Angelique Kerber in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Angelique Kerber has been knocked out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells by Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor.

The world number six lost the second-round encounter 2-6 7-6(5) 6-4 on Saturday.

Torro-Flor, who is currently placed 72nd in the WTA rankings, lost the opening set 6-2, but then staged a comeback.

The 21-year-old took the second to a tie-break, which she won 7-5.

The Spaniard then held her nerve and stave off a fightback from fifth-seeded Kerber in the decider to clinch it 6-4 and wrap up the contest in two hours and 20 minutes.
