Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Fleetwood Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Charlton Athletic and Fleetwood Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Charlton Athletic will be aiming to end a four-game winless league run when they welcome Fleetwood Town to The Valley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the visitors are riding a crest of a wave after claiming consecutive 1-0 victories and could leapfrog their opponents in the League One table with a victory.

Match preview

Since being named permanent boss after a successful caretaker spell, Johnnie Jackson has overseen a run of results that reads as four defeats, one draw and one victory.

In those six competitive fixtures, the Addicks' only victory came in the EFL Trophy against MK Dons, but since that win, they have collected just a point from three league outings.

Despite their recent poor run of form, Charlton can take encouragement from the dramatic manner in which they secured a point against Cheltenham Town last weekend.

After falling behind courtesy of a Dan N'Lundulu strike, the Addicks look destined to suffer a third consecutive defeat, but Chuks Aneke struck in the fourth minute of stoppage time to salvage a point for his side.

Jackson will be hoping that his players can carry the momentum from the late equaliser into this weekend's contest, and after winning four of their last six home fixtures, Charlton will be quietly confident of picking up three points on Saturday.

Fleetwood, meanwhile, find themselves only four points adrift of safety, but they enter Saturday's encounter in a buoyant mood after claiming successive victories.

A 1-0 win against struggling Doncaster Rovers was followed by another narrow victory last weekend, when they played host to promotion-chasing Rotherham United.

With that encounter heading towards a goalless draw, Anthony Pilkington chose the opportune moment to score his first Fleetwood goal as he netted the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

The Cod Army will now turn their attention to a trip to the English capital, with the visitors aiming to collect only their third away league win of the season.

Fleetwood may have struggled on the road this season, but they can take encouragement from their only two away clean sheets in the league this season coming from their previous two away trips.

Team News

Charlton are still without the services of Jayden Stockley, who is missing with a hip injury.

Conor Washington is also a doubt for the hosts after missing last weekend's game against Cheltenham.

Jackson could bring Ben Purrington back into the starting lineup for Saturday's contest.

As for the visitors, Toto Nsiala came on at half time against Rotherham to make his Fleetwood debut, and after assisting the winner, the 29-year-old may be rewarded with a place in the starting lineup.

Zak Jules also made his debut for the club, featuring for the full 90 minutes, and he will once again line up in the centre of defence next to Tom Clarke.

After scoring the winner last weekend, Pilkington could come in to start against Charlton.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Clare, Inniss, Famewo; Matthews, Morgan, Dobson, Lee, Purrington; Burstow, Aneke

Fleetwood Town possible starting lineup:
Cairns; Nsiala, Clarke, Jules, Andrew; Johnson, Batty, Camps; Pilkington, Lane, Harrison

We say: Charlton Athletic 1-1 Fleetwood Town

Charlton have struggled in recent weeks, and on Saturday they face a Fleetwood side who will be full of confidence after winning their last two matches.

Three out of the last four meetings between the two sides at The Valley have ended level, and we think that Saturday's contest will result in another encounter ending all square.
