Everton were set to continue their bid for a spot in the Champions League when they welcomed Crystal Palace to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Despite suggestions that the poor weather would not disrupt the game, officials confirmed that the match would be postponed with just over 30 minutes left until kickoff.

Everton revealed the reason for the postponement was building damage close to the ground which had led to safety concerns.

Read below to find out how supporters of both clubs were frustrated on Wednesday night.

Good evening everyone. We've got more Premier League action for you tonight on Sports Mole and I'll be talking you through Crystal Palace's trip to Goodison Park to face Everton. Make sure you stick with me for live updates throughout the night.

It's turning into a very strange season. Palace weren't being given a chance by anyone to avoid relegation before Christmas but a victory tonight could possibly take them to 10th in the Premier League. Who would have predicted that a couple of months ago?

Everton need a victory as much as anyone tonight. Roberto Martinez's side have lost two of their previous three games, with those defeats coming against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, both rivals to the Toffees for a place in the Champions League. They cannot afford to lose any ground in the battle for fourth spot.

EVERTON: Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Coleman, Barry, McCarthy, Pienaar, Osman, McGeady, Naismith

SUBSTITUTES: Robles, Hibbert, Deulofeu, Mirallas, Barkley, Stones, Traore

PALACE: Speroni, Ward, Parr, Dann, Dikgacoi, Ince, Puncheon, Jedinak, Delaney, Ledley, Chamakh

SUBSTITUTES: Bolasie, Thomas, Gayle, Murray, Gabbidon, Hennessey, Bannan

Martinez makes just one change to his side following the defeat to Spurs on Sunday, with Aiden McGeady returning to replace Kevin Mirallas. Tom Ince and Joe Ledley, who both impressed on debut against West Brom, keep their place in the Palace team. Yannick Bolasie makes way for Jonathan Parr.

Quite simply, it's been mayhem all over the country today. One Premier League fixture has already been postponed in Manchester, while Stoke City's clash with Swansea City has been delayed. There has been problems around Goodison Park, with traffic and train delays making life difficult for supporters but we're still set for the action to start at 7.45pm.

Looking at the teams once again, it looks like Steven Naismith might play in the 'false nine' role for the hosts this evening. It's a position we've seen him used in before and he's certainly done himself no harm, but I'm sure Everton supporters would prefer to see Romelu Lukaku back in action.

It's remarkable to think that Palace could be in 10th place by the end of the night. They looked to be cut adrift just before Christmas but Tony Pulis seems to have changed everything. A couple of good additions in January means they'll be fully confident of staying in the top flight.

Remember, you can follow live text coverage of all of the games in the Premier League tonight by simply clicking on the fixture in the box on the right of the page. Every matchday seems to be a crucial one at both ends of the table recently.

BREAKING NEWS: Everton vs. Crystal Palace has been called off! The weather has claimed another victim, with the hosts confirming that this game has been postponed due to building damage which has led to safety concerns.

Everyone seemed to be confident that this game would go ahead but the wind really is causing problems all over the place and, of course, safety is the top priority.

Well, that was short but sweet. It could have been a cracking match at Goodison Park this evening but the weather has ruined the possibility of us seeing any football on Merseyside. Thank you very much for joining me for a very short commentary this evening. Make sure you remain on the site to follow coverage of the games that will take place tonight. Goodbye everyone.
