Hamilton Academical held by 10-man Partick Thistle

Hamilton Academical fail to find a way through against the 10 men of Partick Thistle to ensure that the spoils are shared at New Douglas Park.

Partick Thistle managed to hold on for more than an hour with 10 men to earn a goalless draw against Hamilton Academical this afternoon.

The first real attempt of the afternoon was fired in by Ali Crawford, who was never likely to get the better of Tomas Cerny from long range.

Liam Lindsay then came close to causing danger when winning a header at the back post, only for Michael McGovern to gather the ball.

A big moment in the opening 45 minutes arrived midway through when Frederic Frans was shown a second yellow card to leave Partick down to 10 for the remainder.

Chris Turner wasted the final chance of the first half when heading over Dougie Imrie's cross to ensure that it remained goalless at the break.

An early second-half penalty shout from Ziggy Gordon was soon waved away, shortly before Christian Nade was denied a run through on goal by the offside flag.

Crawford, who fired wide in the dying embers before the break, saw his latest attempt kept out by Cerny as the Accies continued to press for an opening goal.

A personal tussle was beginning to ensue as Partick stopper Cerny pulled off an important save to deny Crawford, while Kris Doolan was looking to make a difference up the other end of the field.

Hamilton were the side asking all the questions heading into the closing stages, particularly through the lively Crawford, and it looked like the pressure was going to pay off five minutes from time

Greg Docherty's shot came crashing back off the post, however, to ensure that the spoils were shared on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season at New Douglas Park.
