Gianluigi Buffon 'stands by' Michael Oliver comments

Gianluigi Buffon refuses to apologise to Michael Oliver for comments made about the English official following Juventus's meeting with Real Madrid in midweek.

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has said that he stands by the comments made about referee Michael Oliver following his side's dramatic aggregate defeat to Real Madrid.

The 40-year-old was shown a straight red card for dissent by Oliver after the English official awarded Madrid a stoppage-time penalty, which Cristiano Ronaldo converted to win the quarter-final tie.

Buffon was furious with both the penalty decision and the dismissal, telling reporters after the match that Oliver had 'a bag of rubbish for a heart'.

Juve legend Alessandro del Piero felt that the experienced keeper would regret the remarks, but Buffon is refusing to backtrack.

"The content remains and I stand by all of it," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "I'd say them all again - maybe with a different type of language.

"You find a way to speak, right or wrong, that at times can seem excessive - but this is me, I am Gigi Buffon."

Juve had battled back from three goals down before Oliver pointed to the spot for Mehdi Benatia's foul on Lucas Vazquez in the 93rd minute.
