Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva says that he and the team are "not happy" after losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League group stage.

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has claimed that the team's final Champions League group game 'did not go as expected'.

Pep Guardiola and his team are no longer unbeaten in all competitions as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening.

The manager made numerous changes to the first XI, giving a start to youngster Phil Foden, for a match that had no bearing on qualification to the last 16 for City as they had already topped Group F.

Despite that, Silva has expressed disappointment in the club's first official defeat of the campaign.

"The game didn't go as we expected," the midfielder told BT Sport. "In the first half they were better than us and it was a deserved win for them.

"In the second half we tried to come back, had our chances, but we are not happy. Even though we had already qualified, we wanted the three points.

"We have played against some amazing teams this season, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal and we did well. In the Champions League you never know what will happen and we will see what happens.

"We will try our best to win all the competitions. Today it was a big opportunity for most of the players that are not playing as much as the others. I hope we can win at the weekend [against Manchester United] - this is a really important match for us."

All five Premier League clubs have made it into the knockout rounds.
