The 20-year-old midfielder, who is playing a competitive match for the first time since June 2011, has looked comfortable on the ball and forced a decent save out of Julio Cesar from long range on 19 minutes.

The Gunners have thoroughly dominated possession, but they will be unhappy with how little Cesar has had to work.

Andre Santos and Olivier Giroud have both registered tame efforts on target.
