Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised the "absolutely exceptional" James Milner for the impact he has made since arriving at the club.
The Reds won the battle to sign the England international on a free transfer when he departed Manchester City, and the midfielder has started impressively to help his new side to seven points from their opening three Premier League games.
"James Milner's been absolutely exceptional," Rodgers told reporters. "You know he's a good player, but you don't realise how good until he comes into your club.
"He's a proper man, in terms of how tough he is, but he's also an outstanding footballer and he's added massively to this squad in terms of mentality. He's a winner and his work with the players has been outstanding."
Milner is set to captain Liverpool when West Ham United visit Anfield on Saturday.
