Lyon stay top with Marseille stalemate

Lyon stay four points clear of third-placed Marseille with a goalless draw at the Stade Velodrome in Ligue 1.

Lyon stayed four points clear of third-placed Marseille in Ligue 1 with a 0-0 draw at the Stade Velodrome this evening.

The game's first real chance fell to Marseille and it was defender Benjamin Mendy who had it when he fired straight at Anthony Lopes after good work from Andre-Pierre Gignac in the build-up.

Christophe Jallet then had to be alert to deny Gignac, who was lurking at the back post from Mendy's header across goal.

Lyon's best chance fell to in-form striker Alexandre Lacazette on 65 minutes, but somehow the Ligue 1's top scorer failed to make good contact on the ball after an excellent delivery into the box from Nabil Fekir.

Gignac then went close for OM when he pounced on a mistake by Samuel Umtiti before rifling an effort against the post.

There was late drama when Lucas Ocampos thought he had bagged a winner for Marseille, but his effort was disallowed for a foul on goalkeeper Lopes.

Moments later, OM were reduced to 10 men when Jeremy Morel was given his marching orders for a poor challenge on Maxime Gonalons.

Marseille had goalkeeper Steve Mandanda to thank late on when he made a crucial save to deny Corentin Tolisso as the game edged towards stoppage time.
