Manchester United's Robin van Persie: 'I need to score more'

Robin van Persie admits that he has been sub-par in the goalscoring stakes for Manchester United so far this season.

Robin van Persie has conceded that his Manchester United performances have not been up to scratch so far this season.

The Dutch hitman has found the net on three occasions from his nine outings in what has proven United's worst start to a Premier League campaign for 28 years.

Van Persie's last strike came in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea in October, and the former Arsenal marksman admits that he is starting to question his judgement in front of goal.

"Three goals in nine games is not enough," he told Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant on Friday.

"Against Chelsea I had a nice chance and I had three options: chip it, go round the keeper or just [shoot] straight at the goal. I chose the last and safest.

"If I wouldn't have thought it over I would just chip it. I just have to trust again in my intuition."

Earlier this week, it was claimed that the 31-year-old is in decline after marking his maiden season at Old Trafford with 26 goals in 2013.
