James Ward-Prowse: 'Next 10 games are biggest in Southampton's history'

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse labels his side's next 10 games as the most important in the club's history as they chase an unlikely Champions League berth.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has expressed his belief that his side's next 10 matches are the most important in the history of the club.

The Saints breathed new life into their surprise bid for a Champions League spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, taking them back to within one point of the top four.

Ronald Koeman's side will now go on a short break to Switzerland in order to recharge their batteries ahead of their final 10 fixtures, just three of which come against sides currently in the top nine of the table.

"I think it will be great to just have a good time, the pressure of the Premier League is massive, especially where we are in the table," Ward-Prowse is quoted as saying by PA.

"It's good to get away, put our feet up and have a bit of a laugh with the group. It should be a good bit of fun and then we'll move on from there

"These next 10 games are probably the biggest in the club's history and we're determined as a group of players to make history for the club. We want to get us to the biggest stage in the world where we feel we belong with the best teams and best players in the world."

Southampton are not in action again until March 15, when they face league leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
