Australia goalkeeper Mark Birighitti joins Swansea City on two-year deal

Swansea City sign Australian goalkeeper Mark Birighitti on a two-year deal.

Australian goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has completed a free transfer to Swansea City.

The 25-year-old, who made 77 appearances during a four-year spell at A-League side Newcastle Jets, has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

Birighitti will try to fight Lukasz Fabianski for the number one spot, while Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Gerhard Tremmel are also waiting in the wings at the Liberty Stadium.

"I'm very happy with the move," Birighitti told the club's official website. "A lot of hard work has gone into it, and I'm very grateful and humbled by the opportunity to represent such a prestigious and fantastic club. I'm really looking forward to it.

"As a young footballer growing up you dream of playing in big leagues around the world such as the Premier League, which is the best in the world.

"Growing up, I watched a lot of English football and it was something I wanted to achieve in my career. Hopefully I can repay the club for the faith they have shown in me."

The keeper's previous experience is four years at Adelaide United and a loan spell at Varese.
