Brentford defender Ben Mee signs a new one-year contract to keep him at the Premier League club until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Brentford have confirmed that defender Ben Mee has signed a new one-year deal with the Bees.

Mee's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but he has now signed an extension to keep him at the club until June 2025.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles told the club's official website: "Ben was a really good signing in the summer of 2022. He was exactly what we needed at that point and deserved the accolades he got in his first season with us.

"He was unlucky with injuries last season but has been recovering well from the season-ending injury he got at West Ham, so we expect him to be taking part in pre-season one way or another. He is an important and popular member of the squad, so I'm really pleased he is with us next season too."

Mee pleased to sign new deal

Mee has been restricted to just 16 Premier League appearances this season after he sustained a season-ending ankle injury in February.

The defender took to social media to express his delight at the new deal and give a short update on his rehabilitation.

In a video, Mee said: "I'm delighted to say that I'll be sticking around for another year and really excited for next season.

"Recovery is going well, and I cannot wait to get back out on the training pitch, hopefully sometime in pre-season. But I have been enjoying myself for the past two years and feel very much at home here."

Mee's experience is invaluable to Brentford

Mee has established himself as a key player at Brentford since arriving on a free transfer from Burnley in the summer of 2022.

The centre-back started 37 of Brentford's 38 Premier League games during the 2022-23 season, helping the club achieve a top-half finish.

Although he has struggled with injury this term, the 34-year-old remains an important member of Thomas Frank's squad, offering a great deal of Premier League experience with 270 appearances in the English top flight.

Mee will stay on as part of Brentford's central defensive unit, which currently includes Nathan Collins, Ethan Pinnock, Kristofer Ajer and Zanka.

In Mee's absence, 16th-placed Brentford will wrap up the 2023-24 campaign with a home game against Newcastle United on Sunday.
