Rafael Benitez rules out Liverpool return

Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez rules out a return to Anfield after previously hinting that he would like to reunite with his family on Merseyside.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez has quelled speculation linking him with a return to former club Liverpool.

Benitez sparked rumours earlier this week by admitting that he misses his family - who remained on Merseyside following his departure in 2010 - that he would be open to a return to Anfield.

However, the Spaniard has insisted that he is perfectly happy to stay with the Italian outfit for the moment.

"If I go to Liverpool, everyone says I'm going back there, even if it's just to visit my family," he told reporters.

"The fans respect me here and I am happy, there is a team that can grow and I am concentrating on that.

"We decided along with the president to put back any discussion of the contract renewal, although I don't know when we'll meet up."

Benitez helped the Reds - who sit 11th in the Premier League table under Brendan Rodgers - to an FA Cup and a Champions League title in his six-year spell with the English giants.
