Alan Pardew is pleased with his new signings and admits that it is now up to him to improve Newcastle United's fortunes.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted that, having signed a number of new players in January, the responsibility is now on him to save the team from relegation.

The Magpies are currently 16th in the Premier League and have won only two of their last 14 league games.

Pardew has brought in several players during this transfer window, including Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and now accepts that it is up to him to improve results.

"I think the challenge for me is to get a team quickly here," said Pardew. "We've worked on that.

"What happened to this club four years ago at Aston Villa [when Newcastle were relegated] is a message that will be difficult to portray unless you felt it.

"There are some players that you just know are at the level and are going to hit the ground running. I don't envisage Moussa Sissoko having a problem in this division or settling in quickly."

Newcastle take on Aston Villa tonight at 7.45pm.
