Manchester City contact Toni Kroos's representatives to discuss a move for the Real Madrid midfielder next year, according to a report.

Manchester City have reportedly been in touch with Toni Kroos's representatives to register an interest in signing the experienced midfielder on a free transfer next year.

The 32-year-old's deal at Real Madrid is due to expire in June 2023, meaning that, as it stands, he will be free to hold talks with foreign clubs over a pre-contract in January.

Kroos has again been a vital player for Los Blancos this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and four assists in the process.

However, the central midfielder is yet to make a decision on his future in the game.

Kroos recently said that he would be 'retiring' at Real Madrid, telling reporters: "I'm very well, I feel good physically. I'm very relaxed about my [contract] renewal. I don't even know myself what will happen.

"We'll decide before March, so that you don't all get too nervous. I'm going to retire here, what I don't know is when. There's nothing new to tell."

However, according to Sport, Kroos is weighing up all of the options available to him, and Man City are keen to bring him to the Premier League for the 2023-24 campaign.

The report claims that the Premier League champions have made it clear that they are prepared to pay the experienced midfielder between €13m (£11.3m) and €14m (£12.2m) a year to sign him.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola is said to be desperate for a reunion with Kroos, having managed him at Bayern Munich before the player made the move to Real Madrid.

"Guardiola fought until the last day for me to stay at Bayern. If I have to choose a coach who is perfect for my game, it's Guardiola. I really enjoyed the year with him, he improved me a lot," he recently told Universo Valdano.

Kroos has made 383 appearances for Real Madrid since his arrival from Bayern in 2014, contributing 26 goals and 87 assists in the process.

Meanwhile, he has won three La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns during a highly-successful period in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti recently said that it was up to Kroos to decide whether he wanted to continue his stay at Bernabeu.

"Kroos is very well, physically and mentally, he always has a smile on his face, he never gets angry, he never feels the pressure. I think it's very strange, I ask him if he's not nervous and he says no," Ancelotti told reporters last month. "The renewal is in his hands, if he wants to renew, all Real Madrid will be happy."

The midfielder will not represent Germany at the 2022 World Cup, having retired from international football in 2021.
