Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly among the clubs hoping to strike a deal for Schalke 04 forward Matthew Hoppe.
The 20-year-old has spent the last two years with the German giants since arriving from Barca academy in the US, but he is due to be playing second-tier football in the 2021-22 season.
Hoppe caught the eye with six goals and one assist from 22 appearances in last season's Bundesliga, including a hat-trick in a 4-0 thrashing of Hoffenheim, and top-flight sides are supposedly ready to enter a bidding war for his services.
According to 90Min, Schalke are under pressure to sell given their dire financial state, with both Tottenham and Wolves among the sides ready to test their resolve.
However, Schalke are also said to be bracing themselves for approaches from Newcastle United and Southampton, and Hoppe's existing deal at the German club has just two years left to run.
The striker is still waiting to make his debut for the USA national team, but he has been included in their squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
