Leicester City reportedly identify Lens forward Lois Openda as a potential transfer target for 2023.

Leicester City have reportedly emerged as admirers for Lens forward Lois Openda.

The Foxes endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market with financial restrictions preventing Brendan Rodgers from significantly strengthening his first-team squad.

Rodgers eventually had to settle for signing Reims defender Wout Faes as a replacement for Wesley Fofana and goalkeeper Alex Smithies on a free transfer.

At the same time of their struggles behind the scenes, Leicester have been faring no better on the pitch with just one point being collected from six Premier League fixtures.

As it stands, there appears to be no threat of Rodgers losing his job at the King Power Stadium, with the club's hierarchy seemingly prioritising ways that they could freshen up their team in January and beyond.

According to Media Foot, the East Midlands have identified the in-form Openda as a potential transfer target.

The 22-year-old only made the switch to Lens in June, but he has already emerged as one of the top-performing strikers in Ligue 1 this term.

Openda has contributed four goals from seven appearances in France's top flight, helping his side put together a seven-game unbeaten streak to start the season.

While the Belgium international can play down either flank, he is currently being used down the centre by Lens boss Franck Haise.

Openda earned his £8.8m move to Lens through his form for Vitesse, where he contributed 37 goals and 11 assists from 88 appearances in all competitions.

Despite Leicester's interest, Les Sang et Or remain in a strong position with regards to his future as a result of Openda possessing a contract until 2027.

Rodgers is already well stocked for options in the final third with Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka all options down the middle.

However, Ayoze Perez is out of contract at the end of the season and the Spaniard is likely to move elsewhere if he remains as a backup option.
