Paul Lambert backs Christian Benteke for Liverpool success

Paul Lambert believes that Christian Benteke "will score for Liverpool" if he joins the Reds this summer.

Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has backed Christian Benteke to be a success at Liverpool.

The 24-year-old is expected to join the Reds this summer, after a deal worth £32.5m was agreed between the two clubs.

Lambert, who signed Benteke for Villa in 2012, has spoken of his delight that the striker has landed a move to a "big club" and believes that he will have no problem finding the net at Anfield.

"I think he is going to do great," Lambert told Sky Sports News.

"Christian phoned me yesterday and I had a good chat with him. I am delighted for him, he has got a move to a really big, big club.

"I hear reports that he can only score from cross balls. Well, Christian Benteke will score for Liverpool."

Benteke scored 15 goals for Villa last season.
