Mark Hughes: 'Garry Monk's honeymoon period won't last forever'

Mark Hughes tells Garry Monk that his job at Swansea City will become "more difficult" with every match that he takes charge of.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has told Swansea City's interim boss Garry Monk that football management gets harder "the longer you are in the game".

Monk, who replaced Michael Laudrup, masterminded the Swans' 3-0 derby win against Cardiff City at the weekend and takes his players to the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday night.

However, Hughes - who managed Wales, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers before joining the Potters - says that Monk's honeymoon period could quickly come to an end.

"Clearly Swansea wanted a new manager bounce and that is exactly what they got. The players seem to want him to do well. It is similar to the situation I found myself in when I got the Wales job," Hughes told the Daily Star.

"But it becomes more difficult the longer you are in the game - that would be my bit of advice."

Stoke are one point behind Swansea in the league table.
