Benfica reportedly remain open to trying to secure a reunion with Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Bruno Lage.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Bruno Lage is reportedly still held in high regard by a number of top figures at Benfica.

Lage won the 2018-19 Primeira Liga title at Estadio da Luiz before a poor end to the following campaign saw Porto win the Portuguese top flight by five points.

Since then, Lage's stock has risen at Molineux, Wolves currently occupying eighth position in the Premier League table, but it appears that their performances have only led to further admiration behind the scenes at his former club.

According to Correio da Manha, several club officials would prefer president Rui Costa to reappoint Lage, rather than alleged top target Roger Schmidt who is being replaced at PSV Eindhoven.

Sitting 15 points adrift of the leaders this campaign, Benfica will bring in an alternative to interim manager Nelson Verissimo.

Nevertheless, the report claims that Lage currently has his sights set away from Benfica, either preferring to remain at Wolves or secure a job at a bigger European club.
