Mario Gomez says that he is happy with Bayern Munich's victory over Augsburg and believes that they need to win such matches to become the German champions once again.

Mario Gomez has said that he is pleased with Bayern Munich's victory over Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The German striker was on target for Jupp Heynckes's side at the SGL Arena, as they won the Bavarian derby 2-0 away from home.

"Augsburg are left there stranded on eight points," Gomez told the club's official website.

"But they play very good football at home, as we saw again today. These are the games you have to win if you're to be champions. And we've won again."

Bayern are now 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.
