Gabriel Calderon leaves Real Betis after relegation

Former Argentina international Gabriel Calderon leaves his position as Real Betis manager following the Andalusian outfit's relegation from La Liga.

Gabriel Calderon has parted ways with Real Betis following their relegation from La Liga.

The Andalusian outfit finished bottom of the Spanish top flight with only 25 points from 38 games.

Calderon, a former Argentina international, was only appointed in January on a contract until June 30, but after failing to guide them to an unlikely survival, Betis have announced that he has left the club.

"Gabriel Humberto Calderon will not be professionally linked to Real Betis from July 1," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The coach had a meeting last week with president Manuel Dominguez Platas and vice president Fernando Casas to tell them of his intention to take another direction."

Calderon has previously managed the Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman national teams.
