Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: 'We have good base to build on for next season'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that the team have a good base to build on next season for a possible Premier League title charge.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the team have a good base to build on next season for a possible Premier League title challenge.

The Merseyside outfit cannot finish higher than fifth this season with only games against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion remaining in their league campaign.

The club can, however, finish the season with silverware if they beat Sevilla in the Europa League final on May 18 in Basel.

Liverpool will take on Chelsea at Anfield tomorrow evening, but their meeting is rather meaningless as neither have anything to play for in the league.

Two years ago, Chelsea effectively ended Liverpool's title hopes when they sealed a 2-0 victory on Merseyside.

When asked in Tuesday's press conference when the two clubs could take part in a title battle again, Klopp told reporters: "I am not too interested in when Chelsea can win the title again and I have no idea when we can, but I can promise we will try everything to build on the base we have put down this year, and it is a real base.

"It doesn't look like the biggest success in the history of Liverpool to be sixth or fifth, and it isn't, but everyone interested in Liverpool can see the good signs and we will build on it.

"We have to improve and I am certain we will. A lot of things need to be perfect for a really good season. I'm really looking forward to next season, to pre-season, but this season we are still looking for what we can get."

Klopp has been in charge of Liverpool for seven months after taking over from Brendan Rodgers in October.
