Quinton Fortune backs Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United

Fortune expects Rooney to stay put
Former Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune expects Wayne Rooney to still be at the club next season.

Former Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune believes that striker Wayne Rooney will remain with the Premier League champions.

The England international has been tipped to leave Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the 27-year-old asked to depart the North-West outfit a few weeks before the end of the season.

"I can't see Rooney playing anywhere else," Fortune told Goal.com. "Apart from Manchester United, he signed from Everton when David Moyes was the manager so it will be very strange to see him leave and I don't know if all the hype will come down to contract talks because that's how it seems lately but, for him, I hope he stays."

Recent reports have claimed that Rooney has begun talks with Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain.
