Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has signed a new deal until 2023, with the option of a further year.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper made 39 first-team appearances for Southend before completing a surprise switch to Old Trafford last January.
Bishop has yet to make his first-team debut but has signed extended terms, with United saying he "will shortly head out on loan to further enhance his experience".
The PA news agency understands talks have been held with a couple of clubs at League One level over a possible January switch.
"It's an amazing club and I'm delighted to be here, and to extend my stay even longer is just incredible," Bishop said.
"The feeling I had the first day I walked through the door hasn't changed. Driving down the lane at the training ground and coming in the door – it's the same feeling every day, I'm just delighted to be here.
"It's the biggest club in the world and it's unbelievable to be around the players here. It's a year since I joined and it literally feels the same."
Meanwhile, 21-year-old defender Luca Ercolani has returned to Italy to join Serie C side Carpi after five years at United.
