Gus Poyet warns Sunderland over transfer policy

Gus Poyet says that he will leave Sunderland if he is not given the final say on transfer targets.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has warned that he will walk away from the club if he is not given the final say on transfers.

The Uruguayan was appointed on a two-and-a-half year deal at the Stadium of Light following the departure of Paolo Di Canio.

His predecessor claimed last week that all 14 of the Black Cats' summer signings were at the behest of director of football Roberto de Fanti, but Poyet has warned that will not be the case under his reign.

"The player has to be the right one for me - If not, I'm not going to accept it," the 46-year-old told reporters. "We talked about a position the other day and considered four players. I picked two. It was simple. One of the other two was a definite no. If that one is coming, I won't be here.

"I've told him my opinions about everybody and I've told him what I think we should be looking for. For me, so far, there are no problems.

"I knew what the situation was and I accepted it, and so far I have got no complaints, but to prove it to everybody we need to wait until we get through at least one transfer window."

Poyet has led the Mackems to victories over Newcastle United and Manchester City since taking over last month, although they have been beaten by Swansea City and Hull City.
