James Tomkins: 'I shouldn't have gone to ground after push from Kevin Mirallas'

West Ham United centre-back James Tomkins admits that he shouldn't have gone to ground when pushed by Everton's Kevin Mirallas in the Premier League last month.

West Ham United centre-back James Tomkins has admitted that he shouldn't have gone to ground after being pushed by Everton's Kevin Mirallas last month.

Tomkins looked to have reacted theatrically after a push during his side's defeat to the Toffees, with the defender also coming in for some criticism from Hammers boss Sam Allardyce after the incident.

"As a player, I'm against what I did and I wouldn't have wanted it to happen to me," said Tomkins, according to The Mirror.

"It happened quickly and I reacted but, thankfully, the player didn't get sent off which would have made it worse. He did catch my chin when he put his hands up but I wasn't best pleased with my reaction, to be honest. I wouldn't want to do anything like that again.

"I've taken plenty of stick about it but it's behind me now. At the time I probably did want to get him sent off but, looking at it now, I shouldn't have done it."

West Ham are currently in a rich run of form that sees them sitting in fifth position in the Premier League table.
