Monaco striker Radamel Falcao insists that the club will get his best years as they look to become established as a force in European football.

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has declared that he plans to help the Ligue 1 club become a force in European football during the peak years of his career.

The newly-promoted side snapped up Falcao for £53m earlier this summer, adding the Colombian forward to a squad which also includes new signings Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.

Falcao has declared that Monaco's ambition helped persuade him to join Claudio Ranieri's side, with the challenge now to gel a team of players for a return to the French top flight.

He told beIN Sport: "I'm really happy about the welcome I've received from the people of Monaco and from the whole of France in general. Now I'm slowly starting to get used to the French football culture and life over here.

"I'm proud to wear the Monaco shirt and to represent this town, it's a big challenge at an important time. I've decided to come here at the peak of my career because I believe Monaco are trying to position themselves at the top of the European game. That's why I chose Monaco ahead of other clubs.

"When you add players like Ricardo Carvalho, Jeremy Toulalan and Eric Abidal, then it's obvious we have a strong squad. The club have bought well with a good balance between defence and attack. But now we have to try to gel as a team and that's the hardest part."

Ranieri's side get their league campaign underway tomorrow night with a trip to 2012 champions Montpellier.
