Daniel Sturridge hails Steven Gerrard as "living legend"

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge hails the departing Steven Gerrard as a "living legend" at the club.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has described Steven Gerrard as a "living legend" after revealing that he is in awe of his captain.

The long-serving Gerrard will leave Anfield in the summer to join MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy, and Sturridge has hailed the impact that his skipper has had on the whole squad.

The England forward told Liverpool's official website: "This guy is a living legend. Words can't describe what he has done not just for the club but for the players as well.

"He helps players settle in, young players. He takes them under his wing. We will never be able to repay him for that.

"His stature and his demeanour will be very difficult to replace but we have to. It will take time. That guy will always be a legend in my eyes. I am in awe of him now."

Gerrard, who was handed the captaincy by Gerard Houllier in 2003, made his Liverpool debut back in 1998 and has played over 700 games for his boyhood club.
