David Moyes to leave Everton at the end of the season

Everton confirm that Moyes is leaving the club after expressing his desire to join Manchester United.

Everton have confirmed that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season.

Moyes had been widely tipped to become the new Manchester United manager to replace the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson and his decision to leave Everton has all but confirmed the move.

A statement on Everton's official website said: "Everton can confirm that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season.

"The manager met chairman Bill Kenwright early yesterday evening and confirmed his desire to join Manchester United.

"The chairman, on behalf of the club, would like to place on record his thanks to David for the massive contribution he has made to Everton since his arrival in March 2002. He has been an outstanding manager."

It is expected that United will confirm Moyes as their new manager later today.
