Jermaine Jones: 'Stuttgart win important'

Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones says that his side's recent victory over Stuttgart was a very important result.

Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones has claimed that his side's recent victory over Stuttgart was a very important result for the club.

Jones was in fine form for the home side as they grabbed a 3-0 win, with the American midfielder scoring an impressive goal from distance.

"[The win was] very important. We knew we had something to make good on after squandering a clear lead at Frankfurt and not making the most of our chances in Bucharest," Jones told the official Bundesliga website.

"The first quarter hour wasn't good, I nearly helped Stuttgart go in front. After that I tried to play to my strengths and get the team going.

"Scoring the goal was a bit of payback for that early mistake and all-in-all we showed good team spirit and earned the win."

Schalke are fifth in the Bundesliga table with 24 points from 14 games.
