Manchester United's Wayne Rooney annoyed at boxing video going public

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney describes the video of him being floored by Phil Bardsley in his kitchen as a "mess around".

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has expressed his annoyance after a video of him boxing in his own home was made public.

The Sun on Sunday leaked footage of the England captain getting seemingly knocked out by former teammate Phil Bardsley, now of Sunderland, in a kitchen as the pair boxed with gloves on.

Rooney scored United's third goal in this afternoon's 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and celebrated by pretending to be floored.

Asked about the celebration and the video being made public in his post-match interview, Rooney told Sky Sports News: "That's the world we live in today. It's in my own home, it's not public, it's what friends do - they mess around in the house.

"It was a couple of mates in a private house, and somehow it's managed to get on the front page of a national newspaper.

"I've just been focused on the game, it's more interesting for other people rather than for me. You've seen today, I've done a professional job and helped my team win 3-0."

Three points for United cemented their place in the top four as they moved six points clear of Spurs.
