Malky Mackay confirms Shaun Maloney close to joining Chicago Fire

Wigan Athletic manager Malky Mackay confirms that Shaun Maloney is closing in on a move to MLS side Chicago Fire.

Wigan Athletic manager Malky Mackay has confirmed that Shaun Maloney is close to signing for MLS side Chicago Fire.

The 31-year-old was due to join Premier League side Leicester City earlier this month, but the deal collapsed after personal terms couldn't be agreed.

The midfielder had also been linked with a return to Celtic, but Mackay has confirmed via the club's official Twitter page that Maloney will move overseas for an undisclosed fee.

Maloney has been a Wigan player since 2011 following his switch from Celtic.
