Phil Neville: No trophies mean failure

Everton captain Phil Neville believes that his time at Goodison Park would be a failure if he doesn't win a trophy.

Everton captain Phil Neville has admitted that he would consider his time at the club a failure if he doesn't win a trophy.

The defender is expected to feature for the Toffees in Tuesday's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Merseysiders are hoping to go one step better than when they were defeated by Chelsea in the final in 2009.

"I measure my success in medals won," said the 35-year-old. "I came into the game to win trophies, not for personal glory or plaudits.

"I look at the development of the team under David Moyes and the opportunities that we've had to win medals. We got to the FA Cup final against Chelsea and it was really disappointing we didn't perform on the day.

"I'd be disappointed if I left at the end of my contract and hadn't won anything. As the captain of the team, I'd call it a failure."

Neville's contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of next season.
